Diocesan Family Day 2009
On 24 May, the Diocese of Zululand celebrated the Ascension of our Lord, as well as the annual Diocesan Family Day at the KwaNzimela Pastoral Centre - an annual event in our Diocesan calendar. On the day, all approx 54 parishes of our diocese celebrated the Eucharist, the Celebrant of which was our bishop, the Rt Rev Dino Gabriel. The preacher for the day was the Ven Isaiah Manqele, Archdeacon of Nongoma.
This service has, for many years, taken place at the amphitheatre at KwaNzimela. However, for the first time, we were under the shelter of the steel structure of the Mothers’ Union (MU) Hall and Skills Development Centre, a dream come true for the past MU presidents and a definite milestone for the current MU President, Mrs Fikile Manqele.
We were addressed by MU guests from neighbouring countries. The Richards Bay parish of St Andrew’s, who are very creative with the liturgy – using dance, poetry and drama, also performed a dance as part of expressing the love and joy we all find in our God.
It was a spiritually uplifting service, well enjoyed by all. After the procession had left and the recessional hymn was sung, the enthusiastic congregation all headed for their camp chairs and picnic baskets to end this day of fellowship.
